Puerto Rico

I usually devote these blogs to addressing current issues I’ve been thinking about, teaching on a topic related to leadership, or letting you hear from other insightful bloggers.

Today I want to do something a little different.

Early Thursday morning, August 23, I head for San Juan, Puerto Rico and fly home on August 28. I have been invited by a group of leaders from several churches in, or near, the city to conduct my Leaders Who Last  Seminar, which is composed of three two-hour sessions:

  1. A Credible Life
  2. A Compelling Vision
  3. A Cohesive Team

Each session is a combination of presentation, think time, group time and Q&A.

I started doing these seminars in the fall of 2010 and, to date, have conducted 25 of them. Earlier this year I was in India. In January of 2013 I head to Germany to conduct the seminar with leaders from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Additionally, I have been all over the USA and to Canada several times.

I am so grateful to Jesus for giving me these amazing opportunities to invest in leaders from many different places. I consider each invitation a precious gift to steward well!

Some my age (72) are veg’ing in front of the TV, rocking on the front porch waiting for the mailman to show up, or hitting the little white ball around acres of green grass multiple times a week.

I believe God has other plans for me. A verse He speaks to me from is Joshua 13:1 “Now Joshua was old and advanced in years, and the Lord said to him, ‘You are old and advanced in years and there remains yet very much land to possess.’ ” (ESV) I’m trusting Him as I “possess” new lands of opportunity, influence and impact for his glory.

I remember a statement by Mary Kay Ash, the cosmetic tycoon, “Most people go to their graves with their music still unplayed.” I don’t want to be that person. I desire to leave it all on the field, give it my all, my best, until He calls me home. I want to play every musical score, every note, He has put in me.

One special treat on this trip is having lead Pastor Jerome Wade from Destiny Center Church in Rio Rancho, New Mexico join me. If you would, please pray over Luke 5:26 for both Jerome and me, “And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, ‘We have seen extraordinary things today.’” Pray that the Holy Spirit would do some extraordinary things.

All of the material has been translated into Spanish and I will be translated as well, which requires extra grace and sensitivity.

+ If you would be interested in having me bring the leaders Who Last seminar to your area, please email me: I would love that opportunity!
